As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen links between LawExchange members, Hutchison Law Group partner Helga Leftwich visited four member firms during a week long visit to Europe.

Helga was welcomed by LawExchange secretary Lewis Isaacs on the first leg of her tour to Hewitsons in Cambridge where she also met the firm’s managing partner John Dix, as well as partners Dominic Hopkins, Giles Betts, Bill Thatcher and Colin Jones.

She then visited Schiphol-based Levenbach & Gerritsen in the Netherlands where she met with Roland Gerritsen and Adolf van Gaalen, before she travelled on to Amsterdam to speak to Aernout Zappey, Stephan Voermans, Auke de Vries, Reiner Fliehe Boeschoten and Danielle van Dam at Levenbach Advocaten.

Finally, Helga visited Munich-based Zirngibl Langwieser where she was hosted by Hans-Jörg Krämer, Thomas Zwissler and Jan Krekel.

Commenting on her trip in October, Helga said: “It provided an excellent opportunity for me to meet, and reconnect with colleagues abroad. In a number of cases I left with a new appreciation of the similarities between our firms and geographical areas.

“For example, I was interested to learn more about the vibrant and growing technology community in Cambridge which is similar in many respects to our own North Carolina Research Triangle Park (RTP). This is due in part to the strength of the respective research universities located in both areas and the resulting abundance of university spin-outs.

“I was also interested to learn from our colleagues in Amsterdam that the game development industry is becoming more and more significant, as is also the case in the RTP, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of game development companies in the US.”

The visit was a joint undertaking with Heather Dean, a partner at Hughes Pittman & Gupton (HPG), an accounting firm in Raleigh, with which Hutchison Law Group shares a longstanding relationship.
