The Spring 2010 Conference of LawExchange International was held in Bologna over the weekend of 28/29 May, hosted by Italian member firm Studio Galgano and attended by delegates from member firms across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Papers given by guest speakers included: "Italy's Private Equity Landscape" by Mr. Piero Maneresi (a Director of Ethica Corporate Finance and a member of the Board of Mergers Alliance) and "M&A Within the Fashion Industry:Prada and Gucci - Portfolio Strategy" by Mr. Giacomo Santucci of the international consultancy "Club GS" which advises private equity funds and leading fashion houses. 

Papers given by delegates included:  "China's Regulatory Regime On Outbound Investments Made By Chinese Companies" given by Scott Guan of Jade & Fountain, Shanghai; "Investor Actions Against Financial Institutions in Germany - How the German Judicial System deals with the aftermath of the Financial Crisis", given by Hans-Jorg Kramer of Zirngibl Langwieser, Munich and "Earnouts" given by Fred Tannenbaum of Gould & Ratner, Chicago.

The highlight of the Conference was a talk on "China and Africa", given by Professor Romano Prodi, formerly Prime Minister of Italy and President of the European Commission and currently President of the African Union - United Nations Peacekeeping Panel.  Professor Prodi's talk was followed by an open forum discussion.

Federico Galgano of Studio Legale Galgano said "It has been a great pleasure for my firm to host this Conference and to welcome so many of our friends and colleagues from all over the world to Bologna". 

Peter Barnes-Brown of Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton of Boston, who took office as the newly elected Chairman of LEI at the Conference said "The quality of the papers given at the Conference and of the discussions which followed them was outstanding.   Our Conferences lead to ever-closer working relationships amongst all our member firms, to the benefit of our clients".

The next LEI Conference is to be held in Raleigh, North Carolina, to be hosted by member firm Hutchison Law Group, at the beginning of October 2010.
