Hewitsons’ Contentious Trusts and Probate Team have had a good week, achieving settlement of two claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 at mediations taking place on 11 and 12 September. Both claims were against multi-million pound estates and involved a variety of complex factual and legal issues which the team helped our clients navigate through to reach agreement with the other parties.In both cases Hewitsons acted for the Defendants to the claims, namely a private charitable trust in respect of a claim brought by the widow of the Deceased,  and a sibling of an adult child claimant.
