[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="9" gal_title="2017 European Regional Conference"]On 11-13 May, fifteen lawyers from ten of the member firms of LEI attended this year's European Regional Conference, hosted by Italian member firm, Studio Legale Galgano, in Bologna.  Some 10 of our Italian colleagues also joined the Conference.The Conference, jointly organised by Hewitsons LLP and Lindsays, was for lawyers specialising in Private Client (or, as it is known in mainland Europe, Services for Individuals) work.[caption id="attachment_4480" align="alignleft" width="160"] Tim Middleton[/caption][caption id="attachment_4478" align="alignleft" width="160"] Bernadette O'Reilly[/caption][caption id="attachment_4479" align="alignleft" width="160"] Francesca Rossi[/caption]Tim Middleton, Bernadette O’Reilly and Francesca Rossi from Hewitsons combined with Sandy Lamb of the Scottish firm Lindsays to act out a role play in which an English client wishing to buy a property in Scotland was referred to Lindsays. In the role play Sandy was able to demonstrate his ability to play the role of “trusted advisor” for that Scottish transaction.Each of the representatives of the firms attending then demonstrated their ability to be “trusted advisors” should a member firm have a client needing legal advice in their countries, including examples where clients living in one jurisdiction who have assets in another jurisdiction, or who may have died with such assets, leave family members or executors  in need of advice on how to deal with the assets under different tax and probate regimes.The conference also looked at the tax, legal and practical issues for clients buying and selling property in another jurisdiction.Delegates intend to remain in close touch with  each other, as "Trusted Legal Advisors in Europe"So, if you have clients who are individuals and need legal advice in a European country, please let one of Tim, Bernadette or Francesca know and, if possible, they would be delighted to introduce you to a representative of the LEI member firm in that country.Please also see more about the conference in our LinkedIn group.
