Gould & Ratner (Chicago) announce the election of two new members to join Fred Tannenbaum on Gould & Ratner’s (Chicago) Management Committee.Steve GustafsonAn advisor and counselor to entrepreneurs, closely held businesses, and to wealthy families and their family offices, Steve Gustafson’s role is to synthesize multiple disciplines, providing integrated tax, business, and financial advice to the firm’s business clients. As a tax business advisor, Steve’s practice has a substantial emphasis in the areas of tax and financial transactions, including structuring corporate, joint venture, commercial and real estate transactions, and assisting family businesses with tax and financial planning matters. His practice is also focused on the areas of family wealth transfer planning, estate and gift tax matters, philanthropy, and business succession planning.Steve has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at The John Marshall Law School, where he has taught Federal Income Tax Aspects of Real Estate Transactions as part of the Law School’s LL.M. program.Steve is a frequent speaker on topics including the tax and financial aspects of choice of business entity planning, structuring real estate transactions, business succession planning, the design of executive compensation plans, and the tax and financial aspects of planned charitable giving programs.Steve has been recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer as well as having been named an Illinois Leading Lawyer since 2011 in the areas of Closely & Privately Held Business, Business Tax and Individual Tax by the Leading Lawyers Network. Joe LaubRecognized as a leader in tax compliance, Joe Laub is Chair of Gould & Ratner’s Tax & Wealth Transfer practice, as well as a member of the firm’s Management Committee. His practice is concentrated in assisting individuals and family businesses with tax and financial transactional support, family wealth transfer planning, and business succession planning.The tax compliance group prepares individual, corporate, partnership, trust, tax exempt income tax returns, as well as gift and estate tax returns.In addition, it handles tax controversy work with the federal, state, and local government agencies. This work includes audits, refund claims, and tax court matters. The group also handles clients’ tax deficiencies through installment arrangements and offers in compromise.Joe has been named an Illinois Leading Lawyer in the areas of Business Tax and Individual Tax by the Leading Lawyers Network.
