FORMER FEDERAL PROSECUTOR ROBERT MARASCO RETURNS TO PROCOPIO AS PARTNER

August 1, 2019 (San Diego) – Former federal prosecutor and seasoned litigator Robert G. Marasco has joined Procopio as a Partner. He will represent clients in the health care industry with legal services including fraud and abuse, privacy, and data security compliance. He will also be aiding a wide variety of corporate and individual clients with complex civil and white collar criminal litigation matters.“Rob is an experienced litigator with a deep understanding of the complex compliance challenges companies face under federal and state laws, particularly in health care,” said Procopio Managing Partner John D. Alessio. “We’re thrilled to have him return to the Procopio family as a Partner.”For nearly five years Marasco served in the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, in both the District of New Jersey and the Southern District of California. He was the lead prosecutor on hundreds of investigations and managed all aspects of litigation. His focus was on white collar violations of federal laws and regulations, including health care fraud violations. After leaving public service he spent nearly four years with Procopio. Marasco returns to the firm from Dinsmore & Shohl, where he was a Partner in its San Diego office.Marasco serves as counsel to medical staffs at various San Diego hospitals. He also serves as outside counsel to independent physician associations, foundation-based physician groups, and community clinics. He advises clients on compliance with health care laws, fraud and abuse laws, and data privacy and security laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA), among others.Marasco has an A.B. from the College of the Holy Cross and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law. He is active in the legal community, serving in leadership positions in a number of organizations including the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and as a Lawyer Representative for the U.S. District Court. He also plays a leading role in a number of community organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the New Children’s Museum.
