28 September 2017
[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="14" gal_title="2017 Dublin Conference"]LEI Conference Dublin 14-16 September 2017We had an excellent three-day conference in Dublin a few weeks ago, hosted by Irish firm member Flynn O’Driscoll, with about 60 delegates and 20 companions. The conference opened with a cocktail evening in the host hotel, the Marker Hotel, located in the Silicon Docks area of Dublin. The conference during the Friday heard presentations from observer firms Mulla & Mulla (India), Global Law Office (China) and Net Craman (Spain). The Indian and Spanish firms were accepted as new members with the Chinese firm holding their application for a little longer. The new members will add a lot of value to LEI.We had a presentation from Flynn O’Driscoll on how they developed their niche aircraft finance practice and how this might present opportunities for other LEI member firms to work with them in this specialist area globally. There was a presentation from Julie Sinnamon, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, which has a global office network in most LEI members' countries to facilitate Irish companies setting up and doing business overseas. As Julie pointed out, this presents legal work opportunities for LEI member firms to follow up on.Finally, Nicola Barr, General Counsel of European Investment Bank (EIB), presented on the EIB, its procurement of legal services and its global legal needs. The main conference had an excellent session on succession planning moderated by Jim Perkins with break out sessions of all participants and conclusions. There were also spots from technology from Clarence Kunnel and Marketing from Kris Caluwaerts and Kate van Engeland. On Saturday, Dr. Bob Murray challenged all of us on the future and the challenges that we are and will be presented with over the next 10 years. The social side on Friday had a trip to Ireland’s key tourist attraction: the Guinness Storehouse, where everybody learned how to pull a pint of Guinness. On Saturday night, the Gala Dinner was held 45 minutes from Dublin in the countryside at the Powerscourt Hotel, which gave people a flavour of the Irish countryside and also the rain! The conference was very well run and thanks to all at Flynn O’Driscoll. The quality of the external speakers were excellent and the agenda was full on for both days. Everybody had a great time and got lots of value from their trip to Ireland. We are all looking forward to what looks like an exciting next conference in Toronto. While we are in preparation of a video of the 2017 Autumn Conference in Dublin, we already can share some additional photos here. The photos are only available to the members in the Member Area. For those who did not attend the conference, a short video will be published next month.
